The Witches

The book The Witches starts with a discussion about its own genre.  We discussed this in class and decided that the book is an adventure and a fantasy.  Adventure and fantasy can go hand in hand.  Adventure is something exciting where there is a risk involved.  The story is also a fantasy because it takes place in a world that is not like our own.

Tell me what the genre is, in the book that you are reading independently, and give me examples from the story.

Dear Mr.B,
I'm reading the "Throne of Fire". It's fantasy and adventure. It's (so far) about the 4 kids(Sadie, Carter, Jasmine, and Walter) trieing to save the world, with the help of the egyption gods, from a evil snake (Apophis), trieing to devour the sun. All of the kids are magicians from the house of life. Not like birthday party magicians, kinda like socerers. It's delightful, you should read it.
Well thats my blog,

Hey Mr. B.
I'm reading The Hunger Games. Its a fantasy and a little bit or a lot of adventure. Like the part when Katniss takes a risk by talking her sisters place as tribute. And its fantasy cause it takes place in the future where the world is spilt in to 12 districts and the one Katniss lives in is the poorest of them all. She lives in district 12. And theres more adventure to come. I cant wait to finish it I have seen the movie, but not read the book. So I'm so excited to read it and its going to so good.

Hi Mr.B,
The book that I am reading right now is Little Women.I think my book is realistic fiction and a little historicl fiction. The reason why my book is realistic fiction is because, it is about four "Little Women" and how they are regular people going about their own business every day and suprises that happen to them. One suprise that has happened so far is that their rich neighbor invites them to their party around Christmas time. The four "Little Women" were very surprised that happened. The reason why a little of the book is historicl fiction is because, the setting in the story is 1840, the book also talks about some things from the 1840's. That is why I think the book Little Women is realistic fiction and historical fiction.
I hoped you liked reading my comment!

Dear Mr.B,
If you got my other blog from earlyer, you know what book I'm reading. Well I'm reading another book called "ANGELA'S ASHES". I think its pretty good, I lost my place and had to restart it. Its a lovely memoir about the authers life until I think around 13,14. The authors name is Francis Mckourt. He has a sequel to the book called "TIS" (tis is his teenage years and beyond). These books aren't really ment for my age, but my mom lets me read them anyway. It is so sad. By the time he was 10, he lost 3 siblings. I'll bring it in tomarrow to show the first book I mentioned.
Well that's my blog,
Sincerly,
Reilly

To ho ever is reading how to steal a dog you came right out and said my book is a realistic fiction if people were reading your comment they wouldn't understand it because you don't give any details about why your story is a realistic fiction so next time I suggest that you explain why it's a realistic fiction and give it more details from Noah

Anonymous said...

I did read your comment and I really liked it because you really put in a lot of detail abou the four little women and how they had big surprises and how you put down dates of when it happened in the story from Noah

The book I am reading is called the throne of fire. The genre of the book is mostly fantasy. But part of the book is historical fiction. The book is fantasy because they use a lot of magic and there are gods and there are portals. The book is historical fiction because it is based on ancient Egypt and is teaching me about the Pharos and gods of ancient Egypt.

I'm reading a manga (Japanese cartoon style which is rather realistic as far as cartoons go) that my sister Abi is getting out of the high school library called Full Metal Alchemist. I'm not that sure what genre it is, but if I had to I think it would probably be a mix between fantasy and science fiction. I think it's fantasy because it has things that couldn't happen in really happen in real life, and it's on a different planet, but it's not like it's containing things like magical animals that talk. (well, it does have that, but that's where the science fiction comes in) I think it's science fiction because all of the things that can't be done in real life have to do with science. For instance, the alchemy has to follow science rules, like to get something, you have to give something of equal importance. (the talking animals was when you use alchemy to combine a human with another animal) But it doesn't have things like aliens, or robots that take over the world, or time machines.

Jakob

P.S. The genre in Japanese is showmen, which means it's geared towards men. The other genre is shojo which means geared twords girls. Shojo has more character building, but shomen has more action. I like both. An example of shojo is Vampire Knight.

to Tyler Donnell. Realistic fiction means it could happen in real life, and The Lightning Thef (which I have read, awesome book) although it is an epic book, could not happen in real life. I think it would be fantasy.

Jakob

P.S. I reccomend reading the rest of the series, reading the Kane Cronicals, and reading The Heros of Olympus after reading Percy Jackson And the Olympians.

Hey Mr.B I like the book that we are reading.(the witches)
The genre is fantasy because witches aren't real in real life. I never thought that witches would look like real people.
It is fantasy because kids can't be turned to stone, paintings,
And other creatures.I don't know much about about the book yet, but I like it a lot.

Hi Mr.B,
The book I am reading right now is Catching Fire (the 2nd book to the Hunger Games). I think that this series is little bit of fantasy and it is a little bit of si-fi. It is fantasy because there is things that could never happen in this world like there is the Annual Hunger Games and the tributes and all that then it is si-fi because there is an scene where the Hunger Game "workers" made all the people that have died in the Hunger Games into wolfs that tried to kill Petta and Katniss.
In Catching Fire Katniss best friend Gale goes off to the mines in district 12 to work and she only gets to see him on Sundays. I love the series, I hope you read it!

I really like the book we are reading in class, The Witches. I think it is a fantasy, it is fantasy because in the book there is witches, of course and it's other genre is si-fi because there is people with claws instead of nails then the witches have blue spit and they are bald and there eye pupils change color and there nose holes are extra big. It is a great book, I love it!

The book that I am reading is called The Mark of Atheana. I think that this book is fantasy/adventure, because, I has a lot of magical things in it, like: talking dragons, giants, ghosts, flying warships, pegasi, storm spirits, gods, titans, magical battles with a lady made of dirt; satyrs. My favorite genre is: fantasy/adventure. I have also read the Percy Jackson series, the Harry Potter series, James and the Giant Peach and several other books and series in the fantasy/adventure genre like The Kane Chronicles. I like books that you cannot put down.

Hi Mr.B
I like the book the Withches. I think it is really good. The pictures in the book are very strange. I like when the narrator is telling about what the withches look like. It makes me really picture what the withches actually look like since there are so many details. I hoped you liked reading my comment about how I think the book is going.

Hi Mr.B,
I love the book the Witches. It is a fantasy book. The illustrators pictures are very creative and had a very interesting imagination. The author, Roald Dahl also has a great imagination too. Roald Dahl make you under stand the book so much he makes you feel like you are there watching. I can't wait till we watch the movie I really hope it is scary and exciting because those are the good movies. The only thing I dont like about this book is that it is very easy for me and maybe some other people. If another class or student is looking at this blog I really hope they where inspired to read the Witches. If you read it I hope you enjoy it.
